There has been much criticism of late about the outdated views of religion: religion needs to step up and embrace today's way of thinking, many are shouting. This is going on about homosexual choice in relationships, about abortion and other things: as a Christian and a Mormon how do I feel about this?
I will stand on the Lord's side. If one believes in God, which I do, then one must believe that God is all knowing, that He is unchangeable...if not He would exist to be God and the elements and all things would cease to obey Him. God our Father has been who He is for many more millenia than we have been who we are in years. His wisdom and understanding far exceeds that of man. Therefore I will stand with God.
Most people wish to have truth on their side but do not necessarily wish to stand on the side of truth. Look what man has accomplished...say over the last one hundred years. Great knowledge has been opened up to us, from God, and look what we have done with it. We are no closer to world peace now than 100 years ago, we are only a little closer to extinguishing hunger and sickness. Actually we have the technology and the means to wiping out sickness and to preventing starvation but we don't do it. Medical companies want their billions and are not about to give their breakthroughs away. Let someone else buy their medications and vaccines and they can give it away. The government pays farmers not to grow food so that the markets are not flooded, this keeps the prices up and quantities limited. True farmers need X amount to be able to grow food, but if we were really concerned about wiping out hunger we would make it possible for food to be grown and farmers to have the money they need to live.
In short we are still very selfish, self centered beings.
What would God have us do to solve these problems? He stated it simply; love thy neighbor as thyself and He has given us the intelligence to solve ALL our problems. If we truly loved each other we could not rest until everyone had a roof over their head, clothing on their backs and food on their tables.
No, I will stand with God. He is ALWAYS right. Whatever He commands is right. I know that He knows what is best and why and while He does not always give the whys but asks us to have faith, I will put my faith and trust in Him.
