During President Obama's campaign for President he tried to link himself with Lincoln. Having studied about Lincoln somewhat I came to realize the ONLY thing they share in common is being residents of Illinois.
People have tried to unjustly paint Lincoln as an athiest. This goes back even to his own time period. Just the opposite is true however. Lincoln cleared all confusion when he held up the Bible and said this is what he bases his firm beliefs and values on.
The confusion began because Lincoln refused to join any religious organization, although he regularly attended their meetings. He refused to join because he felt that the ministers or preachers were hipocrites. They swore their faith on the Bible but it failed to be recognized in their behavior. Their advocacy of slavery was a huge block in Lincoln's eyes. How could anyone condone slavery and claim to be a Christian?
Lincoln's spent all energy to uphold the Constitution. Politicians today do everything they can to create admendments to destroy or get around the Constitution, Obama being no different.
One main characteristic I liked about Lincoln was his honesty and integrity even when his view was against the popular tide. He didn't care what telling the truth would cost him for he knew if he did not he could not live with himself.
I don't think anyone could study Abraham Lincoln and not find him one of the greatest men to ever live and that he was a firm believer in God and Jesus Christ.
